Reservation: Boon or a Curse? Before discussing whether the reservation system is just or not, let's see what exactly it is. Reservation was done after the independence by the Mandal Commission under PM Morarji Desai for the development of backward groups and providing equal opportunities to them so that they could also have access to the resources and opportunities. Reservation was important back then because those backward groups had been oppressed and exploited for a long time before independence which had made them weaker economically, socially, politically and educationally. But even after more than 75 years of Independence, is it still necessary? I think so.
